Eilen kysyttiin tv-torstaissa eri sarjojen välisten hahmojen yhtäläisyyksiä. Tänään vasta löysin vastauksen. Oikeastaan vastaukseni oli itsestään selvä, mutta kesti tajuttoman kauan löytää sen toisen sarjan nimi, sillä se ei vain ollut mielessä eikä löytynyt muuten kuin selaamalla tarpeeksi kauan perhe-aiheisten amerikkalaisten sitcomien listaa. Huh. Jostain kumman syystä halusin kuitenkin nähdä asian eteen vaivaa, ja kyllä se kannattikin, sillä kumma kyllä sarjojen nimetkin ovat lähes identtisiä.
Aiheenani ovat siis oudot pikkuveljet. Nämä kaksi hahmoa tulivat heti mieleen, sillä ovat molemmat sekä ehdottomia suosikkeja kyseisistä sarjoista (vaikka aika yhtä yhteneviä ovat myös äidit, isät ja isoveljetkin) että todellakin hyvin samankaltaisia. Ensimmäinen hahmoista on hitusen vanhempaa kaliiperia, joten aloitetaanpa hänellä. Kyseessä on Dewey sarjasta Malcolm In the Middle (Veljemme on nero 2000-2006).

No ensinnäkin Malcolm in the Middle on mielestäni oikeasti hauska sarja. Mutta kaikista hauskinta siinä on Dewey. Tässä hiukan lainattua esittelyä Deweyn hahmosta:
In the earlier seasons, Dewey was shown to have a very poor grip on reality. Often from his point of view when he asks his parents nicely for something while in reality throwing a horrendous tantrum. He had often been shown biting heads off his toys, eating parts of a teddy bear, marbles, coins, and even underwear. His memories and fantasy also deviated away from reality or the current situation greatly as when he remembered a car incident he was driving while Lois was saying his name, and while Malcolm and Reese were fantasizing on how cool they would look on a motor bike, Dewey was imagining himself with six arms.
Dewey has memories from when he was a baby and dropped by his grandparents. Dewey is about to follow his brother into the gifted class, only to have Malcolm help him stay in normal classes. Malcolm has Reese complete Dewey's test, which accidentally gets Dewey thrown into the "Special" class, which is full of kids considered lost causes. Students in this class are known as the "Buseys" (a reference to actor Gary Busey). Dewey has since organized the class to desire more normalized expectations, and taught them standard lessons. He has been trying to show that they are just as capable as others, and has organized them to do things such as performing an opera he wrote based on his family.
Siirytäämpä sitten seuraavaan, hiukan tuoreempaan sarjaan. Tämä on nimeltään tietenkin vain the Middle, sillä siinä ei esiinny Malcolm -nimistä henkilöä. Tuotanto on aloitettu vuonna 2009 ja ilmeisesti yhä jatkuu (viisi seasonia on jo melkein paketissa). Asetelma on hyvin samankaltainen aiempaan nähden. Vanhemmat ja lapset keskipisteessä. Mikäs siinä, toimii aina. Middle keskittyy kuitenkin hiukan enemmän aikuisten välisiin kuhinoihin.

Hauskinta Middlessä on kuitenkin pikkuveli Brick kaikkine omituisuuksineen. Voisin hyvin nähdä Brickin ja Deweyn veljesparina. Niin samanlaisia outolintuja molemmat ovat. Tässä hahmokuvausta wikipediasta:
Atticus Shaffer as Brick Heck, youngest of Mike and Frankie's children, loves to read and has a habit of repeating words from his previous sentence to himself in a whisper. In season 1 episode 5, it is revealed that he possesses an eidetic memory. He is smarter than most teenagers, having read Of Mice and Men, a book his elder brother is struggling with at the same time. He also loves the "Planet Nowhere" series, and the real-life "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" . He is exceptionally intelligent but easily distracted, leading him to procrastinate on doing his homework assignments and projects. Brick is a known gephyrophobiac, and is fascinated with fonts. Due to his awkwardness, he struggles to make friends. In Season 2 he befriended an equally awkward boy named Arlo, whom Brick himself struggles to deal with. There has been a lot of mention of occupational therapy, but he hasn't actually seen an OT yet.
En tiedä onko tämä "oudon pikkuveljen" hahmo yleinen stereotypia. Ihan äkkiä en keksi muita sarjoja joista seltainen löytyy. Tyhmä isoveli lienee se yleisempi ja tutumpi stereotypia. Mutta huikkailkaapa jos muistatte heti lisää näitä pieniä ja omituisia pikkuvelikultia.
